Pertanika Journal of Quality of Life Studies

Types of Articles

The Pertanika Journal of Quality of Life Studies (JQoLS) publishes three main categories of peer-reviewed articles: Full-Length Research Articles, Scientific Brief Reports, and Review Articles. Selected manuscripts may also be considered under Special Article Formats, subject to prior editorial approval.

Full-Length Research Articles

Full-Length Research Articles present original empirical research relevant to quality of life, well-being, or related human and social outcomes. They may use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches and should provide a clear account of the study design, methods, analysis, findings, and contribution.

  • 5,000–8,000 words, including references, tables, and figures;
  • abstract of 200–250 words;
  • up to five keywords;
  • at least one and no more than two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where relevant.

Manuscripts exceeding the word limit require prior approval from the Editor-in-Chief and a clear justification for the additional length.

Scientific Brief Reports

Scientific Brief Reports present focused findings, concise empirical studies, pilot work, methodological contributions, confirmatory analyses, or timely discussions of emerging issues relevant to quality of life and well-being.

  • 2,000–3,000 words, including references, tables, and figures;
  • abstract of 100–150 words;
  • up to five keywords;
  • at least one and no more than two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where relevant;
  • maximum of three tables and/or figures in total;
  • up to 20 references;
  • appendices are not accepted.

Review Articles

Review Articles synthesise, evaluate, and critically examine literature relevant to quality of life, well-being, or related areas affecting individuals, families, communities, institutions, or societies.

JQoLS welcomes systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, integrative reviews, critical reviews, narrative reviews, theoretical reviews, and policy-oriented reviews. Reviews should identify research gaps, clarify concepts, synthesise evidence, and explain implications for theory, research, policy, practice, measurement, or future scholarship.

  • 6,000–9,000 words, including references, tables, and figures;
  • abstract of 200–250 words;
  • up to five keywords;
  • at least one and no more than two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where relevant;
  • no fixed reference limit, but references should be comprehensive and appropriate;
  • tables, figures, review flow diagrams, conceptual models, or summary frameworks may be included where appropriate.

Special Article Formats

JQoLS may consider conceptual articles, theoretical articles, invited commentaries, policy-oriented papers, practice-oriented papers, methodological papers, or other scholarly formats relevant to quality of life, well-being, human development, social conditions, sustainability, public policy, or societal outcomes.
Such manuscripts should be submitted only after prior consultation with or written approval from the Editor-in-Chief.
