Pertanika Journal of Quality of Life Studies

Types of Articles

The Pertanika Journal of Quality of Life Studies (JQoLS) publishes two categories of peer-reviewed articles: full-length research articles and scientific brief reports. Both categories publish original research contributions and are reviewed and accepted according to the same editorial and peer-review standards. The distinction between them reflects differences in scope and length, rather than differences in scholarly status.

Full-Length Research Articles

Full-length research articles report original empirical or theoretical work that advances understanding of quality of life and/or subjective well-being. Submissions may use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods, and should be firmly grounded in relevant literature with clearly described research design, data collection, and analysis.

Papers in this category are expected to make a meaningful theoretical contribution and to outline practical implications where appropriate. Strong manuscripts offer new insights into the determinants, measurement, or interventions related to quality-of-life (QoL) and engage directly with existing scholarship.

Manuscript specifications:

  • 5,000–7,000 words, including references, tables, and figures (supplementary materials and appendices excluded)

  • Abstract of 200–250 words

Manuscripts that exceed the word limit require prior approval from the Editor-in-Chief and should include a clear justification for the additional length.

Scientific Brief Reports

Scientific Brief Reports are short articles that present new findings, innovative approaches, or focused studies that contribute to scientific understanding. They are appropriate for preliminary results, confirmatory analyses, pilot work, methodological contributions, or timely discussions of emerging issues related to quality of life and subjective well-being.

Submissions should clearly state the research question or objective and provide a coherent analysis. Although concise, manuscripts should present well-supported findings or arguments that are relevant to ongoing research and scholarly debate.

Manuscript specifications:

  • 2,000–3,000 words, including references, tables, and figures

  • Abstract of 100–150 words

  • Maximum of three tables and/or figures (combined total)

  • Up to 20 references

  • Appendices are not accepted

Manuscripts should be focused and substantive within the limits of the brief format.
